The Dagger
Loneliness and Sadness
Like a dagger to the heart
Feel it twist and turn as the pain consumes you
Overrun by thought with no distractions to help
The people you love - so far away
The people you love - too busy to talk
Their love, uneven to the strength of mine
And so the dagger pushes in further
And a blow to the stomach is received
Broken and hurt yet left unmarked
For a smile and fake laugh covers it all
The dagger hiding behind a simple “I’m ok”
The pain builds up until it cannot be hidden no more
But then it is too late
As the damage is done, the blood shed
Feelings of loneliness swarm and take over
Til I cannot smile or spout “I’m ok”
The pain lingers, it does not improve
As I feel left behind, entrapped by sadness
I feel alone in these feelings
As others simply move on and live happy
