I did not hear him as he called out As if I could have comforted him Or kept him from slipping away Perhaps he was waiting to say goodbye Or to hear how sorry I was to see him go
I did not hear him as he called out I was young and caught up in living my life Of squander, waste and dark skinned girls With eyes of fire and ice I admit I was not very nice
