A cup of black coffee cools, watching as a disheveled man, holding his torn shirt, throws an empty bottle into a nearby wastebasket, missing, adding to the pile on the cement
He doesn’t notice
A young girl wisps past in her new Nike’s, oblivious of the world outside her next few steps and the running mix playing from her iPhone. Past the five-story luxury condos and through the courtyard of the adjacent public housing projects
The sanitation worker empties the trash that found it’s way to the can.
The remainder still sits on the curb
A dog leads its walker on his morning adventure. A fallen newspaper stand provides a seat to a hungry panhandler. A college student wanders past, in search of a cup of coffee and a wifi signal
Musicians make their way to practice, passing countless bicycles attached to street signs and traffic lights and trash cans
A mother walks her newborn son alongside her husband
Past a man deep in conversation with someone whom only he can see
A man sits from behind the glass with his coffee, seeing everything, and seeing nothing

Being from New York, and so close to NYC, I fully understand this sort of thing. Simple, yes, but I like it. Captures some of what a normal day is like.
