Head tilted on the window pane,
Tearstained letter still in her hand.
She gazes through the darkened night,
Oblivious to sight and sound.
Mind wondering to a better time
When darkness never loomed.
As one by one the raindrops fall,
She hangs her head in gloom.
The street lights blurred by falling drops
Enhance the sadness in her heart.
Sweet memories unfold before her
As she stares out towards the park.
Remembering their days of love,
As they strolled along the paths.
Never knowing that the end would come.
But it has reached at last.
She looks upon the window pane
And notices no rain.
The drops that she had seen before
Were tears she’d cried in vain.
