I remember your voice cracking a bit in church when you would sing But I never saw anything ugly in you.
I remember at times you would yell But I never saw anything ugly in you.
As the years went by, your step slowed and your face aged But I never saw anything ugly in you.
When I became a teenager, at times your answer was no But I never saw anything ugly in you.
When I was a man, I moved away and saw you so little But I never saw anything ugly in you.
When I stroked your pale face and kissed your chilled forehead, I whispered, "I never saw anything ugly in you".
And now you stand beside someone who loved you even more than I Because he never saw anything ugly in you.
