Who is this man that stands before me, Lonely and confused. And asks that I should write who I see, Rather than who I know. I see a man who tries to be, How others think he should. And in doing so he‘s hidden his soul And who he truly is. I see a man that gives of himself, To erase past childhood ghosts. And tries to rectify injustices of others That hurt him as a child the most. I see a man who feels betrayed By those who fail to understand him. A man who’s changed his life around To satisfy sometimes selfish needs of others. A man who hides away all his pain Known only to himself. To smooth out life’s rocky paths, For an unfulfilled life of harmony……. This man has put away his soul To do what he feels needs to be. He’s become a man that others want Rather than who he truly is. Yet day by day he feels his true self Crying to be released. Not happy with whom he has become, His heart and mind in constant battle. This man now leads a lonely life That no one sees but him. Strange how people see the smile, But not the tears within. Anger and frustration often surface from beneath. Yet no one seems to understand that this is just his grief. Instead, again they use it against him, To ask of him but more……. A man who’s hidden all his needs And gently closed the door.
