I was once so young and so fair Not the withered old woman that you see there My face was pink with a youthful glow Where did the beauty go
My waist was slender, a handspan's girth My smile was wide with girlish mirth Hair that shone like a golden halo Where did the beauty go
Young men would vie to win my hand Nothing left now but a worn wedding-band Dull are the bright eyes that captured him so Where did the beauty go
Yes, a withered old woman before your eyes But I have been loved by a man good and wise My arms have been filled with loving children The beauty now shines from within
